Concrete is a widely used material for building constructions. Hence new developments in concrete technology are being grown more and more. Many researchs have been done to understand the basic principles of concrete properties, one of them is the brittle type of failure which occurs under tensile stress systems. To increase the thoughness or tensile properties of the basic concrete matrix, reinforcing bars are added in particular areas or by adding fiber to concrete mix. To utilize local building materials, study on the pottential of coconut fiber and local steel fiber were intended to improved ductility properties of Normal and High Strength concrete. <br />
The Constituent materials for the specimens consisted of ASTM type I cement, natural sand, crushed stone, and air entraining admixtures. The agregates met the ASTM gradation requirement. The type of coconut fiber is 50 mm long, and the type of steel fiber is 60 mm long. Compression, cyclic and flexural loading test were applied to concrete specimens. Concrete volumetric ratio was determined based on concrete workability. Results show significant improvement on ductility and crack properties of concrete. The Economical material cost is normal concrete mix with 2% coconut fiber or 1% local steel fibe or high strength concrete mix with 1% local steel fiber. |
