APPLICATION OF MAGNETIC METHOD IN DETERMINING THE TYPE OF ROCK BASED ON THE SUSCEPTIBILITY OF ROCK UNDER THE SURFACE OF PAPANDAYAN GARUT VOLCANO

INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/46087 The potential of a volcano can not only be enjoyed from the surface view but can also be exploited from below the surface, for example, rocks and minerals that are in it. So that research is conducted on the study of the application of magnetic methods in determining rock and mineral types based on the value of rock magnetic susceptibility beneath the surface of Papandayan Volcano. Data collection was carried out at 259 points around the crater of Papandayan Volcano to get the total magnetic field value. The magnetic method is a geophysical method based on variations in the intensity of the magnetic field on the earth's surface caused by variations in the distribution of magnetized objects below the earth's surface (susceptibility). The instrument used to measure magnetic anomalies is the magnetometer. Data processing is done with by correction of daily variations and correction of IGRF (International Geomagnetic Reference Field) on total magnetic field data so that the total magnetic field anomaly contour is obtained. Based on the results obtained from the research data show the distribution of anomaly values of the magnetic field below the surface around the Papandayan volcano on the basis of daily correction readings on the base obtained the lowest value of 45026.8 nT and the highest value of 45045.5 nT. The total magnetic anomaly value is -707.5 nT to 617.6 nT, using the IGRF value at Papandayan volcano of 45059 nT. The magnetic susceptibility value of rocks in subsurface structures around Papandayan Volcano is dominated by basaltic igneous rocks with the value of susceptibility is around 0.032065 SI. While the presence of negative magnetic anomalies is likely caused by high temperatures below the surface. text
