Summary:The amount of waste generation in Indonesia continues to increase every year, and this is due to population growth and people's consumption patterns. Referring to these conditions, encouraging various elements of the community to play an active role in assisting the government in overcoming the increasing problem of waste. The practice of social entrepreneurship can be an alternative to overcoming these problems. Plepah, as one of the social enterprises in Indonesia, comes with providing environmentally friendly food containers made from areca palm leaf sheath. By utilizing the areca palm leaf sheath, Plepah tries to provide an alternative solution to the waste problem in Indonesia. In addition, Plepah does not only aim to make a product that has economic value but also to empower people in the area. Therefore, this research was conducted to explore the role and activities of Plepah as social enterprise in empowering communities in the Teluk Kulbi Village. This study used qualitative methods and case studies as a strategy in research, where the case study in this research is in Plepah as social enterprise. Data collection techniques carried out by in-depth interviews with each informant, direct observation, and document review. The informants selected in this study were based on their position in community empowerment activities carried out by Plepah, which was carried out by snowball sampling. The results of this study are the role and activities of Plepah as social enterprise in community empowerment received positive responses from the community in Teluk Kulbi Village. The Role and activities of Plepah can be seen from the social value created, the involvement of all lines of society, the creation of environmentally friendly products, and the initiation of micro-manufacturing. And the community believes that the activities carried out by Plepah will provide benefits to improve their economy in the future. Then, community economic empowerment carried out by Plepah in Teluk Kulbi Village, has not provided an economic increase for the community. Because the production is still not going well. However, Plepah has succeeded in changing the perspective of the people of Teluk Kulbi Village in looking at the areca palm leaf sheath. In terms of community social empowerment, Plepah conducts training on the benefits of areca palm leaf sheath to all lines of society. Furthermore, Plepah's activities in community environmental empowerment are in the form of products derived from environmentally friendly materials.
