Thus, the optimization of the external insulation is the key factor for the economization of the future power transimission system. In the other hand, insulation coordination is the key factor for the outage rate due to lightning surge, switching surge over voltage and power frequency voltage under contaminated condition. <br /> This paper presented a study of the extra high voltage transmission line insulation coordination using A.R.Hileman physilosophy (1984) and a result of a computer calculation outage rate due to flashover of Suralaya-Gandul 500 KV transmission line. <br /> The method applies for the estimation outage rate is as follows: <br /> I. The \"Static Probabilistic Method\" developped by K.T.Sirait, P.Sihombing, E.Napitupulu, T. Fukuta, Y.Mizuno, K.Naito, K.Arakawa (1995) , applied for estimating flashover performance (risk of failure) caused by the power frequency voltage under contaminated condition. <br /> II. The \"Simplified Anderson Method (1984), applied for estimating flashover performance caused by the lightning surge over voltage (lightning perrfomance). <br /> III. The \"Probabilistic Method developed by Gordon W.Brown (1984), EPRI (Electric Power Research Institute, Technical Research Laboratory-Korea Electric Power Corporaton, applied for estimating flashover performance caused by the switching surge over voltage.. text
