Human want to have their mobilization easily, and efficiently. Motorcycles are modes of transportation which many people choose nowdays. This makes business competition between motorcycle manufacturers in Indonesia. This has resulted in many engine component innovations being carried out by motorcycle manufacturers such as gears. The selection of materials and the production process on the gears is an important step in order to obtain gears that reach the standards in order to function optimally. This research was conducted with the aim of knowing the strength and characteristics of the gear shaft studied by compared with the standards used in one type of motorcycle. This 125cc Honda motorcycle is used as a reference in this study by looking at the engine's rotation speed at maximum torque and maximum torque as well. The characterization is in the form of metallographic testing and optical emission spectrometry (OES), to determine the classification and the structure of the material. The loading calculation that occurs on the gear shaft will also be compared with the strength of the material used. After making comparasion between the load calculation with the strength of material on gear shaft used, it can be concluded that the reference material and the material used in this research have similarity of value. The material used has greater strength than the reference honda 125cc material. text
