Description
Summary:Lembang College of Theology (STT) is a college for prospective teachers of Protestant Christianity under the auspices of the Pasundan Bandung Christian Church Foundation (YBPK GKPB). This school complex located on Jalan Jayagiri, Lembang, West Bandung Regency is build to encourage the growth of spiritual and social users. In this case, YBPK GKPB want to establish a theological college based on the vision and mission of the Foundation and the Pasundan Christian Church (GKP) of the Lembang congregation. The school is prepared for students of theological college from all regions in Indonesia. Total designed area is 31,000 m2. In this case, the main problem of design is to accommodate education, residential, and religious function that requires different criteria of calmness, comfort, and privacy; orientation of sloping land facing east-west; and the need for buildings which can encourage students interacting with other students, teachers, and general public. Based on these considerations, this project is designed to create an integrated campus environment, optimize land efficiency, and encourage social interaction between residents and the surrounding environment. The issue in this project is the building layout based on the function and shape of the site, as well as social interaction. The building layout is needed to create sequences, separate public and private spaces, and optimize sloping land efficiency. The issue of social interaction is considered important to encourage students who will later become "servants of God and His people" to enhance tolerance and mutual respect for fellow humans. The design issue give a birth to the concept of "Experiencing Spiritual and Social Space in Educational Buildings". Design of STT Lembang resulted in the design of the school complex which consisted of lecture buildings, churches, male and female dormitories, lecturer residences, and supporting lecture buildings with a capacity of ±500 people with building masses broken down and placed at different contour heights. Differences in contours are utilized to form a building hierarchy oriented to the main circulation on the site. Access to the site is on Jalan Jayagiri, Lembang, West Bandung Regency. The ground floor applies the pedestrian oriented concept with the analogy of the cross symbol as a binding axis which also limits the pedestrian space to create social interaction. The campus complex is designed with an open impression and transition spaces to increase social interaction with the surrounding environment.
