INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/46308 Medan is one of big cities in Indonesia that are experiencing rapid development. These developments are resulted in shifts in land use and resulted an increase in the number of built areas thereby reducing areas that can absorb waters. Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) is an educational area constructed on the area that was previously rice fields. The topographic on this campus is relatively flat with a slope of 0.25% so water flows tend to be very slow. In addition, there are 3 secondary drainage on the area that connecting tertiary drainage to one of Medan’s primary drainages, namely The Babura River. Changes in land use, topography and drainage aspect highly affect the emergence of water runoff at the USU campus. Managing rainwater runoff can be done by designing proper blue and green zone spaces that can absorb and store water runoff so that water flowed to the Babura River can reduced in quantity and water quality naturally improved. Landscape design in the open space area with the principle of rainwater management is able to increase the ecological value in the campus environment, so it can be a pilot design in designing an environment that adaptive to flood disaster. text
