Description
Summary:Mangrove forest grow in tropical coastal areas and has an ecological role for its surrounding environment. Mangrove forests protect the coast from large waves and becomes a habitat for a various marine fauna. It stores the highest carbon density among any other ecosystem globally. In Southeast Asia, mangrove forest is highly biodiverse and contributes to the sustainability of the ecosystem. However, based on existing studies, mangrove forests are experiencing deforestation due to high demands of commodities and land use. This research is aimed at analyzing land cover changes in Southeast Asia that cause mangrove deforestation. The analysis was performed by comparing changes in land cover on each global land cover product with mangrove deforestation based on Mangrove Forest Watch (CGMFC-21) data. The results of this study indicate that the GLCNMO detects land cover classes that replace mangrove forest areas in the study period more than other global land cover products. Based on the results it can be concluded that the methods and products used affect the results. There are many sources of data products that can be used for future research, with other better methods so that they provide space for future research and development.
