<b></i>Abstract :</b><i><p align="justify"> <br /> The southern area of West Progo district are susceptible to , periodic inundation. The inundated land are mainly agricultural land. Before inundation hazard can be mitigated it always there are potential losses. It need non structural measures through adjustments of agricultural land utilization of to reduce potential losses. This research descriptively described the measures. Three aspects are described: physical aspect of land, policies of regional development and farmers' adjusments in relation to inundation. The analysis unit is village. <br /> <p align="justify">Based on phsysical aspect of inundation each village is classified into level of inundation hazard. Sensitivity to inundation hazard determined based on percentage of agricultural households and existence of irrigation infrastructure. Vulnerability to hazard is resulted by interface between level of inundation hazard and sensitivity to hazard. <br /> <p align="justify">Potential inundation losses depend on level of inundation hazard and pattern of agricultural land utilization (schedule and intensity of utilization). <br /> <p align="justify">In relation to inundation hazard, the existing regional development, spatial planning and agriculture policies have not been fully adjusted. <br /> <p align="justify">The farmers have done adjusments to inundation hazard in the form what be called as surjan land utilization system and post inundation replanting. The such adjustments are useful at area of low to medium level of inundation hazard. <br /> <p align="justify">For reducing potential losses, agricultural land utilization should be adjusted according to degree of inundation hazard, with alternatives: restrict agricultural land use and accupancy, rescheduling of planting, development of surjan and decreasing intensity of planting. <br /> <p align="justify">The adjustments of agricultural land utilization will bring some consequences: the need of adjustments of regional development, spatial planning and agricultural policies; development off farm activities. Meanwhile, priority of inundation flood control should be conformed to level of inundation hazard.
