Description
Summary:Long Lasting Phosphorescence (LLP) materials are commonly used as display devices and emergency lamp, multi dimension optical memory, and etcetera. For the l ast few decads, there have been a search for LLP materials. In order to create LLP maten_al, tt re uues luminescence ion that is compatible witthe ost an? _has usable def ct. In_ thts - x enmen_t, CaSi03 is chosen as host lattice for dopmg with E u3 ton and co-dopmg With Bt ton. Tlus work involved the synthesis of CaSi 03: Eu3 , Bi3• and study to elucidate i ts luminescence propetties. Eu3 ion is a well-known red emitting activator, due to 5D0 - 7h (J = I , 2, 3, 4, 5, 6) transition. Bi3 ion is known to increase the intensity of phosphor by co-doping, through the charge transfer. CaSiOJ is a polymorph with th e fonnul a of AB03 (A = Ca., 8 = Si) CaSiOJ has a monoclinic and a t:ri.clinic structure. CaSi03 in a monoclinic structure has a space group of P21 /a, and in a triclinic structure has 2 space groups. C 1 and P.1. CaSi03 :Eu3 , Bi3 compounds are synthesized using hydrothermal methods using Ca(N03)2.5H20. N a2Si03. Eu(N O h. and Bh03 as precursors. Structure and luminescence properties are characterized using X-Ray diffractometer (XRD), photoluminescence spectrophotometer. and UV-Vis DRS. From the experiment, it is fow1d that CaSiOJ synthesized using hydrothennal methods is not in single phase because there are sti ll some Ca2SiOphases. The results from PL and UV-Vis DRS measurements show that co-doping of bismuth increases the luminescence intensity of CaSiOJ. possibly caused by charge transfer from Bi3 to Eu3 .
