RAINFALL CHARACTERISTICS THAT TRIGGER BANDUNG FLOOD IN 1986 BASED ON HEC-HMS MODEL SIMULATIONS (CASE STUDY IN THE UPPER CITARUM WATERSHED)
Flood is the most common disaster in Indonesia caused by extreme rainfall. In 1986 was occurred the biggest flood with the longest duration in the last 40 years period, which causing an inundation to reach 7.249 Ha or 10 times greater than floods in the current period. Historical understanding of di...

Historical understanding of disaster is one of the keys to mitigation. Thus, understanding the characteristics of rainfall that triggers the 1986 Bandung flood is very useful in reducing the risk of flood disasters in the future. However, historical data of the 1986 Bandung flood incomplete, therefore the research that discusses the rainfall characteristics that causes the 1986 Bandung flood is required. Based on that problem, we analyzed the rainfall characteristics that trigger the 1986 Bandung flood utilize rainfall data of observation and CHIRPS. Analysis of the Spatio-temporal variation of rainfall and its response to hydrograph using Hydrologic Engineering Center’s Hydrologic Model System (HEC-HMS) model simulation. The 1986 Bandung flood is also proof that Spatio-temporal variation of rainfall does not always have a major effect on the duration of the flood. The Spatio-temporal variation of rainfall is affecting to increment of peak discharge. Bandung flood in 1986, which ten times greater than floods in the current period, was triggered by rainfall with a volume 1,48 times greater than the 2019 Bandung Flood. Therefore, in the effort of flood mitigation planning in Bandung Basin, the area rainfall volume 1,48 times greater than the 2019 Bandung flood should be considered. text |
