HARDWARE DESIGN FOR SIGNAL ACQUISITION OF 18-CHANNEL ELECTROENCEPHALOGRAM WITH BIPOLAR MONTAGE

Electroencephalogram (EEG) signal is a signal obtained by recording the electrical activity of the brain taken from the scalp using metal electrodes or conductive media. EEG signal analysis is a way performed by doctors to find out the physiological disorders of brain function. In this final project...

EEG signal analysis is a way performed by doctors to find out the physiological disorders of brain function. In this final project, hardware design is carried out to acquire an 8 channel EEG signal with sequential montage. The main component used in this design is ADS1299 which functions as an Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC) and CD4052 as a multiplexer to regulate the incoming signal to the ADC alternately. ADC register settings are carried out by a microcontroller, namely ESP32 through SPI communication. Besides, sending EEG signal data output from the ADC to the laptop for further processing is also done by ESP32 using its Bluetooth feature. The hardware dimensions are achieved with a size of 9x9 cm2 so that it can be attached to the electrode cap. EEG signal data was successfully acquired every five seconds per channel and sent to the laptop. However, the signal quality still needs to be improved. text
