Description
Summary:PT Shownex Asia is a private company of family owned business, a subsidiary of big Holding company which has been known for its experiences and reputation in a wide diversity of industries. PT SHOWNEX ASIA has a great reputation in the MICE industry as one of prominent venue providers in a strategic area in Jakarta, since its establishment in 2004. In response to the increasing demand, PT SHOWNEX ASIA has built a new Convention Hall and experiencing delay for 17 months, from original 22 months of contract, during the development process. The focus of this research is the Performance Evaluation of project management implementation to determine the root causes and dominant factors causing the delay, and to recommend the corrective actions as the lessons learned for future projects within the company. This research discusses about problems in the business process within the company, involving the resources, environmental and organizational factors, and relationships among the stakeholders. The method of Qualitative research has been selected as it should be more suitable to explore and collect the reliable information, insights and opinions from selected competent stakeholders. Data collection was performed by interviewing selected stakeholders having high power and interests in the success of the project. Root caused analysis was determined by mapping the primary data from the interviews and direct observations, countered with secondary data from the theory or literature study of PMBOK, Project Management books and Journals. Eleven major findings, i.e. Long process of approvals, Bureaucracy and procedures, Design not completed on time, Design changes, Unreasonable time schedule, Project complexity, Non-proper project planning, Contractor’s performance, Resources capability, Communication issue and Fire Incidents, and three of emerging constructs (Contractor’s evaluation process, Lack of document control and documentation system and Controlling in-house contractors) are found. Based on the root cause analysis, seven factors (Resources capability, Project complexity (related to Knowledge Management issue), Design not completed on time, Contractor’s selection process, Bureaucracy and procedures and Lack document control and documentation system) are concluded as the main causes and dominant factors for the delay. Improving the existing project management methodology by refer to PM-BOK, establishing PMO and using IT documentation system and BIM implementation are suggested. Based on the value-effort analysis, using the IT Documentation system, which also solves the knowledge management issue, becoming the top priority of recommendation.
