Summary: | Abstract :
Regional Development Policy is needed to overcome the problems of imbalance and underdevelopment. One of the policies of Pesisir Selatan Regency to overcome the problems of isolation and underdevelopment, has been to construct a public road to the eastern part of the Regency. This road will connect the Regency with Solok Regency, Solok Municipality, Sawahlunto /Sijunjung Regency, and Sawahlunto Municipality. The road will start from Kambang, Kecamatan Lengayang nd finish at Muara Labuh, Kecamatan Sungai Pagu.

A major problem with the planned route is that it will cut across protect forest and the Kerinci Seblat National Park. There is therefore a potential conflict between Regional Economic Development and destruction of the natural environment.

This possible conflict forms the basis of this tudy. Therefore the objective of this studi is to identify the economic impact and any negative impact on the environmental.

This study uses both qualitative and quatitative descriptive approaches to 1) identify the development potential of Pesisir Selatan Regency; 2) identify the economic benefits and cost caused by the road; 3) idntify the negatif impacts to the natural environment; and 4) descibe the negative and positive impacts.

The result of this study show that the road doesn't give the positive impacts on the economy but have the negative impacts to the forest and to Kerinci Seblat National Park.
This study therefore recommends that if the construction of the new road is continued, should rise the postive impacts to local economic and the negative impacts to the forest and to Kerici Seblat National Park, should be minimized. |
