Description
Summary:The rise of modern markets that have begun to spread in cities has a negative impact on economic activities in traditional markets. More comfortable shopping experience offered by the modern markets makes traditional markets less popular today, especially for the middle and upper class. On the other hand, Kosambi Market as a fairly legendary market in the city of Bandung with a city-level service, can now be said to start dying, from one basement and six floors there are only two floors that filled by traders. Therefore, redesign of the Kosambi Market is needed so this legendary market that is located on Jalan General Ahmad Yani can stay alive. The project entitled Kosambi Market Redesign was initiated by PD Pasar Bermartabat Kota Bandung with an area of 11,600 m2. This project brings the basic concept of 'Traditional Market Revitalization as an Urban Public Space' with the aim of making traditional markets always alive by providing space for the public to gather and do their activities freely. In this market, public space will provide open and flexible new space to the market. This public space is expected to make the market be more active with many public activities that can be accomodated in this market besides buying and selling goods. In addition, this public space can replace the stigma of a dirty market into pleasant market and can be a place for recreation and relaxation. In the end, the economy of micro, small, and medium enterprises can grow if Kosambi Market is always alive.
