Description
Summary:Abstract :

Membrane separation technology is one of the most developing technology nowadays. Separation of ions in solution can be done by reverse-osmosis membranes, based on the difference of solubility and difusivity of solutes. In this research, the effect of acids to membrane permeability has been investigated. Parameters that have been used are type and concentration of acids, and the length of' hydrophilization. It was found that hydrophilization of membrane surfaces can increase the permeability of membranes. The optimum condition was given by using H3PO4 9 M with one day of hydrophilization. Although the membrane permeability at surface hydrophilization process by HCI 12 M with two days of hydrophilization is lower than the membrane permeability at optimum condition, but recalling its high permselectivity, this should be considered. Surface hydrophilization process by H2SO4 has its maximum value at concentration 6 M with two days of hydrophilization. Hydrophilization of membrane surfaces increased the membrane permselectivity, but decreased its mechanical strength.
