Summary:Jelekong painters community transferred their knowledges to generations by hereditary who do not have formal art education background to to young painters who also do not have formal art education background, which has lasted for 50 years produces the distinctive characters of Jelekong paintings that are consistently practiced in producing paintings. The distinctive character of Jelekong paintings is formed through a process of imitation of various image concepts, both from imagery (mental representation) and digital image references. This research aims to determine the ideation factor in the creation process of Jelekong painting artists who do not have formal art education background to build an understanding of creation process in the context of hereditary painting knowledges. The creation process at early stage of the idea analyzed using verbal report method, though an associative concept network analysis of subject’s experience when drawing sketches, image analysis and factor analysis. The result of data analysis show that there are 15 dimensions of ideation factor in the creation process of Jelekong painting artists, namely placement, elements of nature, source of life, activity, thought, texture, manmade, human relationship, color, nature, dimension, culture, household needs, characteristic and hobby. The dimension of placement indicated through the painters paying attention to the object composition frequently. The dimension of element of nature indicated through drawing the additional natural elements, such as rocks and animals frequently. The dimension of source of life indicated through the existence of human life’s sources, such as mountains, rivers, sea and sun. The dimension of activity indicated through the activity of living things. The dimension of thought indicated through the painters pouring the memories of the natural atmosphere frequently. The dimension of texture indicated through the presence of tree texture markers by using different lines. The dimension of manmade indicated through the existence of man-made objects, such as houses, huts, boats and bridges. The dimension of human relationship indicated through the house distance is too close each other which give the impression of kinship. The dimension of color indicated through the desire of painters to provide color. The dimension of dimensions indicated through the placement of two objects on the right and left frequently. The dimension of nature indicated through the beautiful depiction of Jelekong nature. The dimension of culture indicated through the diversity of tree species and the body shape differences of deers and horses that can distinguish between the sexes of both, such as the horns on the deers that signifies a stag and the body of one horse larger and muscular that denotes a stallion. The dimensions of household needs indicated through the profession differences, such as fishermen and farmers. The dimension of characteristic indicated through the existence of vertical and diagonal dividing lines to distinguish the sky and sea, right and left, and sea and land. The dimension of hobby indicated through the hobby of a child riding a buffalo while accompanying his father working in the fields. Green and picture dominate the creation process level of ten Jelekong painting artists, the word of green is indicated through a coziness natural atmosphere with many depictions of trees and wild plants in the sketch drawing, and then the word of picture is indicated through the sketch drawings results that tend to focus on visual elements. 10 Jelekong painting artists examined in their minds are represented by associative meaning that leads to harmony with an eigenvalue of 9.011, which is indicated by the existence of the harmony identity with the distance close of houses, the object placement generally amount to two on the right and left, the different colors of distant and near objects, the ideal depiction of natural landscape with clouds, figurative shapes and other natural objects, using the different lines on each object to provide texture, the existence of professions, differences activities, and the balanced composition. During the drawing sketches, the painters also consider calm with an eigenvalue of 6.09, which is indicated through a quiet atmosphere in the absence of damaged natural elements, a cozy atmosphere with many dense leafy trees, the artist's memory of a cozy and calm natural atmosphere, and pictures with a large space, as if there is only one house and extremely rare draw many living things. The ideation factor in the creation process of Jelekong painting artists tends to practice imitating or copying works that have been made before by the frequent drawing objects that are similar to the painting that are produced every day. In Jelekong painting artists’ sketch drawing; it is really rare to find the element of novelty that causes harmony and serenity factors frequently found in each works. These are forming their own characteristics in the creation process of Jelekong painting artist so the artwork produced still salable in the market.
