Description
Summary:Insecticide bioassay is conducted to determine the relation between the amount of insecticide being administered and the magnitude of the organism's response. Susceptible insect is needed for insecticide bioassay. Black Soldier Fly (BSF) larvae (Hermetia illucens) are species that are rarely exposed directly to insecticides, thus H. Illucens larvae are susceptible and hence H. Illucens larvae are good organisms for insecticide bioassay. This study aims to determine the lethal effects of various types of insecticides on H. illucens larvae. A total of 30 H. illucens 14-day old larvae were fed with chicken feed at a rate of 100 mg/larvae/day. The chicken feed is dissolved with synthetic insecticides: endosulfan, fipronil, profenofos, carbosulfan and deltamethrin, also organic insecticides: ?-endotoxin and azadirachtin in 3 different concentrations. The mortality of H. illucens larvae was observed at the 1st hour, up to 72 for synthetic insecticides and up to 7 days for organic insecticides. The mortality of H. illucens larvae were assessed by probit analysis using Microsoft Office Excel 365 to determine lethal concentrations (LC90 & LC50) and lethal time (LT90). The results showed LC50 values for insecticide endosulfan, fipronil, profenofos, carbosulfan, and deltamethrin were 236.25; 37.97; 380.62; 294,13 and 6,11 ppm. The LC90 value of the insecticide was 997.97; 97.28; 1139.08; 889.50 and 40,019 ppm respectively. LT90 values for insecticides with active substance endosulfan, fipronil, profenofos, carbosulfan and deltamethrin in concentration of 172.5; 2.5; 50; 375; and 300 ppm in a row are 9278.6; 174.2; 90.4; 31891,1; and 707.5 hours. LT90 values for insecticides with active substance endosulfan, fipronil, profenofos, carbosulfan and deltamethrin in concentration of 345; 1.25; 100; 750; and 600 ppm in a row are 15089.2; 11602,8; 37.55; 44.5; and 63.6 hours. There were no significant LC90, LC50 and LT90 values for insecticides with active substance ?-endotoxin and azadirachtin. Synthetic chemical insecticides tend to have a fatal effect on H. illucens larvae compared to microbial and botanical insecticides.
