EVALUATING THE IMPACTS OF BUS PRIORITY IMPLEMENTATION: TSP (TRANSIT SIGNAL PRIORITY) ON SIGNALIZED INTERSECTION (CASE STUDY: CITY BUS IN BANDUNG CORRIDOR CICAHEUM-CIBEUREUM)

The existence of the traffic signaling system at the intersection has caused the Bandung City Bus to experience travel delays along its corridors. Therefore, a traffic signaling arrangement is needed where the bus is given priority to pass the intersection first. The implementation of bus priority w...

INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/46856 The existence of the traffic signaling system at the intersection has caused the Bandung City Bus to experience travel delays along its corridors. Therefore, a traffic signaling arrangement is needed where the bus is given priority to pass the intersection first. The implementation of bus priority will certainly affect the performance of traffic at the intersection that is passed by the City Bus. So, it is important to know the impacts caused by the application of bus priority at the signal intersection. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the impacts that will occur due to the implementation of bus priority at a signal intersection and determine the effect of the location of the detector and green time limits on these impacts. In this study, bus priority is only applied to the Cicaheum-Cibeureum corridor, precisely at Simpang Lima and Tamblong Simpang. The type of bus priority used is Transit Signal Priority (TSP) with the strategies namely green extension and early green. All priority systems are simulated using Vissim 11 in no-priority scenarios, with-priority 1 scenarios (detector locations variations), with-priority scenarios 2 (maximum green time variations). Simulation results at the two intersections show that the TSP has a positive impact on bus performance, namely a decrease in bus travel time and a reduction in bus delays. In addition, the TSP also had a negative impact on the performance of the intersection, namely an increase in queue length and an increase in vehicle delays in non-priority approaches. To minimize the impact of the TSP, the detector location and maximum green time can be done. The more the location of the detector away from the queue disturbance or the greater the maximum green time at the priority approach, the smaller the travel time and delay of city buses and the greater the queue length and the vehicle delay at the non-priority approach. text
