Description
Summary:Hermetia illucens (Diptera: Stratiomyidae) or Black Soldier Fly (BSF) is one of the bioconversion agents that can convert any kind of organic wastes into high-value biomass. The quality of the biomass produced by Hermetia illuces larvae is strongly affected by the food given. In this research, BSF larva was used as a bioconversion agent on coconut pulp, one of the main waste in coconut industry. This study aims to determine the effect of coconut pupl as feed on larva growth and the ability of BSF larvae to convert coconut waste based on efficiency of digested-fed (ECD) and Waste Reduction Index (WRI). In addition, an analysis of H. illucens life table based on the Age-stage Two-sex life table was conducted. The results showed that H. illucens larvae were able to reach prepupae in 16.79 days with an average weight of 0.24 g. The average value of Efficiency of Digested-feed (ECD) and Waste Reduction Index (WRI) are 19% and 3.27%, respectively. The results of life table analysis showed the intrinsic rate of increase I 0.08/day, finite rate of increase (?) 1.08/day, net reproduction rate (R0) 50.01 offsprings, and mean generation time 48.40 days. Based on the results of this study it can be concluded that coconut pulp are very well used as Hermetia illucens larvae feed.
