<b>Abstract :</b><p align=\"justify\"> <br /> Pertamina is one of the governmental organizations, established in 1971 by UU No. 8/1971. Logistic function is a supporting function that deals with planning, directing, controlling and empowerment of human resources and the company\'s asset, in providing the material, transport and other services needed for operational smoothness and company\'s development.<p align=\"justify\"> <br /> Pertamina \'s logistic function is still facing some problems. They are : a very long lead time, high inventory level, an inadequate service level, a low inventory turn over, and the slow increase of in house products consumption. To overcome these problems, as discussed in this paper, the roots of the problems are first identified by using the fish-bone diagram. Then these problems roots are eliminated in order to overcome the problems.<p align=\"justify\"> <br /> With the restructuring program being done in Pertamina, the company \'s both internal and external conditions must be considered By looking at the cause of logistical problems, a logistic function strategy will be set. The functional strategy will be of three stages : first stage is reinforcing the fundamentals, second stage is creating a competitive environment in each operational unit, and third is the independence stage.<p align=\"justify\"> <br /> The independence stage is important since Pertamina is going to focus on its core business. That is to guarantee Pertamina \'s continous growth with the support of an independent, effective and efficient logistic function.
