PT. Indo Gas Asia (name of the company is disguised due to confidentiality) was established in 2002 with the aiming to developed gas pipeline transportation and pipeline integrity. IGA is the first company in Indonesia which the core business is to transport natural gas through pipeline to domestic market and international. IGA always try to develop the natural gas utilization in Indonesia, while ensuring fast delivery time, reliable, and safe at the same time. With IGA commitment of delivering gas, one of the challenging things in IGA is to choose the right project and doing the project right. This research is aiming to know the criteria in choosing the right project and also how to improve in doing the project right so that the project can meet the company expectation. The methodology used in this research is qualitative by having interviews with the respondent which has experience in doing a project in IGA and also strengthen by literature review related to project management in PMBOK, project selection process and also from journals. The data analysis for this research is using fishbone analysis and aiming to find a solution to the identified problem. To have a successful and efficient project is started from having the right project selection process. Screening a project can be illustrated as a funnel with filter for selecting many proposed projects into a filter consist of budget, urgency, cost and benefit of the project. These four elements are interrelated to each other. To decide to do the project, first thing to see is how much budget that the company has, then after knowing the budget allocation for project, choosing the project prioritization by their urgency and comparing between the cost and benefit of a project. Project will be prioritized with the highest possible benefit and lowest cost to get profit margin of project. However sometimes, in project implementation there would be an added cost to a project that could decrease the profit margin of project or even loss to a project. By knowing the factor that could added cost to a project, hopefully in the future this factor can be handled better so that the project can achieve the goal as expectation.
