This study aims to evaluate the effect of tannery industry waste on plant characteristics and rice production of Banowati varieties. Samples were taken when the rice plant was 56 DAP (Days After Planting) from two different rice fields in Sukamentri Village, which were polluted and uncontaminated rice fields. Rice plant characteristics observed included: number of tillers, root length, plant height, plant dry weight, leaf color, chlorophyll content and time of panicle and rice production. Leaf color was measured using a leaf color chart and chlorophyll content was measured by the method of Winterman and de Mots (1965). As additional data, measurements of Cr levels in the soil and water in the paddy fields, roots, shoots, and grains of rice in both paddy fields at various points. The data obtained were then analyzed by the T-test of two free samples with a confidence level of 95%. The observations showed a significant difference between rice plants from polluted paddy fields (pt) and uncontaminated paddy fields (ptt) on the number of tillers, plant height, root length, plant dry weight, leaf color, and chlorophyll content. Panicle formation time and harvest time pt were observed 7-10 days faster with grain production 2.6x more than ptt. Grain pt is observed to be unevenly cooked while ptt is cooked evenly. Cr levels in polluted and uncontaminated rice fields and water are still below the safe threshold. The root organ, peck, and grain pt have higher Cr levels than ptt with the highest accumulation in the root. In the same plot, the closer to the point of source of pollution, the higher the Cr content. From the results of this study, it can be concluded that the leather tanning industry wastes in Garut affect the characteristics of the observed rice plants and thus affect their production. text |
