One of its product is tea. This product is made by PT X’s own factory. During its production process, PT X needs to transport packaging material from its factory’s warehouse to its machines inside the factory using handpallets. The mechanism used by PT X is by using manual labour to transport it. PT X’s management feels that their material transportation is inefficient that caused by the handpallets contraint in only containing one type of material. Meanwhile, there are 13 kinds of material that is needed by PT X’s machines from its largest area, which is packing hall. PT X’s hope is to reduce the personnel neede for transporting materials, especially to packing hall area. After doing some discussion with PT X’s management, it is decided that faster transportation duration can justify its hopes to reduce personnel. With that, it is also decided that by replacing the material handling device can help achieve PT X’s hopes, which is by using tugger train. Tugger train is a material handling device which can contain two or more handpallet in one journeym and it still uses operator. But to calculate its transportation duration, we need to know the machine’s demand for materials. But, PT X only have cumulative demand for all of the machines. So, to determine machine demand it is decided to consider probabilistic machine downtime. In the end, transportation duration is calculated by considering probabilistic machine downtime and uses simulation method. Three simulation model scenario area created which uses tugger train, actual system, and 1 handpallet as an alternative, then compare their outputs. As according to simulation output, the three models are valid when compared to historic material demand, and it is decided to choose the tugger train scenario which has transportation duration of 68,2512 minutes. text
