INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/47088 PT XYZ is one of the companies that manufactures mattresses in Indonesia. Two types of mattresses are produced by the company namely foam mattresses and spring mattresses. Spring mattresses are the company's mainstay products and are generally purchased by consumers in the form of mattress sheets. The spring mattress assembly process in the finishing stage of spring mattress production is a critical process because it determines the fulfillment of the mattress production target and uses the most resources compared to the other component assembly processes. However, the spring mat assembly line still has low performance with a line efficiency of 59%. The low efficiency of the assembly line is caused by the assignment of work elements and the determination of the number of parallel work stations that have not been optimal. Therefore, balancing spring mattress assembly line is needed to improve line efficiency with the production targets being met and a minimum number of parallel work stations. The mathematical model used is mixed integer linear programming with output in the form of assignment of work elements at each stage in spring mattress assembly and the number of parallel work stations with the objective function maximizing line efficiency. Inputs needed are the standard time of tasks, zoning of tasks, production targets, operational time, and precedence relationship between tasks. The solution obtained resulted in the total number of parallel work stations being reduced from 20 stations to 14 stations. The value of the line efficiency increased to 84%. Based on the output of this solution, the proposed spring mattress assembly line design is proven to be better than the existing conditions. text
