DESIGN OF FLOATING STRUCTURE TO SUPPORT A 500-KW PHOTOVOLTAIC SYSTEM IN BULELENG REGENCY, BALI PROVINCE, INDONESIA

The scope of work in this bachelor’s thesis is the design of a floating structure that is capable to support a photovoltaic system in the near-shore of Buleleng Regency, Bali Province, Indonesia. The design process includes the identification of environmental conditions (namely wind, wave and curren...

INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/47114 The scope of work in this bachelor’s thesis is the design of a floating structure that is capable to support a photovoltaic system in the near-shore of Buleleng Regency, Bali Province, Indonesia. The design process includes the identification of environmental conditions (namely wind, wave and current parameters) in the location, materials and dimensions, the number of platforms needed, structural layout, static floating stability, heave and roll parameters, and structural analysis of the structure. Methods used in this work include secondary data acquisition and software modeling. Secondary data acquisitions are in the form of wind parameters, tidal data, and the materials needed for relevant near-shore use of the platform. Software modeling methods are in the form of wave parameter modeling from wave spectra of 50-year period values, current parameter modeling from wind and tidal data, and structural analysis. Wind parameters and wave (that are obtained using hindcast from wind extreme values) parameters goes through extreme analysis to acquire the 50-year return period values. Environmental loads are calculated. The design of structural platform are iterated to find the most applicable dimensions. Static stability are determined for the structure, and a positive value is desired from the calculation. Structural analysis are performed to output deflection and unity check ratio (UCR) values, which are compared with standards, if any are found and applicable. Heave and roll parameter calculations are then finally performed to determine the structure’s range of motion. text
