STUDY OF EMBANKMENT BEHAVIOR ON THE SOFT SOIL CLAY WITH PVD AND PRELOADING USING THE COMBINATION OF NEN-BJERRUM, ISOTACHE, NENKOPPEJAN, TERZAGHI AND DARCY MODELS

One method of soil improvement that is mostly done is preloading combined with vertical drain. The preloading method is done by giving an initial load, usually in the form of landfill before loading from the actual construction. While the vertical drain is an artificial drainage system that is in...

INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/47130 One method of soil improvement that is mostly done is preloading combined with vertical drain. The preloading method is done by giving an initial load, usually in the form of landfill before loading from the actual construction. While the vertical drain is an artificial drainage system that is installed vertically in a soft soil layer. Both of these methods aim to accelerate the time of consolidation settlement that occurs due to the dissipation of excess pore water pressure. In carrying out the soil improvement works, it is necessary to conduct an analysis to find out the behavior of the improved soil conditions and also the expected results after the soil improvement works are carried out. This research will be re-analyzed for research conducted by Shen et al., 2005 using the D-Settlement software. The use of the D-Settlement software was chosen to see the embankment behavior in the consolidation settlement analysis that was improved by preloading and PVD using a combination of constitutive models and the consolidation models that exist in the software. The results will be compared with the output from the paper which is the result of FEM analysis and measurements in the field. Based on the results of the analysis conducted, the combination of models that are suitable for this analysis are NEN-Bjerrum and Darcy. The results of the analysis of settlement, excess pore pressure and lateral displacement of this combination show significant differences with the results of the study of Shen et al., 2005. In the final section, also presented the relationship between plasticity index, undrained shear strength, compressive index, liquid limit, water content, vertical and horizontal hydraulic conductivity, Young's modulus and horizontal displacement of the Shaoxing clay. text
