The aim of this research is to make antibacterial silk suture by adding the binahong leaf’s extract. Some parameters are study such braid angle of the braid suture, plasma treatment on the surface of the braided suture, the concentration of binahong leaf’s extract, and tensile strength of the suture. Characterization was conducted using SEM for morphology observation, FTIR and UV-Vis for composition observation. The antibacterial effect was examined using Staphylococcus Aureus bacteria, and tensile strength test using the The TensoLab Machine based on ASTM D 2256. Antibacterial silk suture was made by adding binahong leaf’s extract. The best antibacterial properties of suture obtained on suture with braid angle 31o and belong to USP 2 standard. The increasing the braid angle from 27o to 31o, the plasma treatment on silk fiber, and the increasing of the concentration binahong leaf’s extract from 0 ppm to 100 ppm enhanced the antibacterial properties. The increasing of the concentration binahong leaf’s extract 0 – 100 ppm had not effected significantly on tensile strength of suture with braid angle 27o but decrease the tensile strength of suture with braid angle 31o. text
