Summary: | People needs some space to interact with the community. Public space as in urban
park is one the strategic spaces for urban communities to interact with one
another. The structure of public space elements, in this case urban parks, has an
impact on interactions that occur and become one of the factors that influence
people's interest to visit urban park.
According to BPS Bandung, in the last few decades residents of the City of Bandung
in the productive age group (aged 15-64 years) have the largest portion, and those
referred to as millennial generation (aged 20-35 years) occupy the largest share of
the productive age group. Millennials generally rely on technology, so the use of
urban parks as spaces for social interaction is less desirable. To increase
millennial's interest in urban parks and create urban park as spaces for social
activities, it is necessary to understand their needs and desires of urban parks
elements along with the development of the elements of urban park in Bandung. The
urban parks that become the location of the study are Teras Cikapundung, Babakan
Siliwangi, Taman Skatepark, Taman Film, Alun-Alun Cicendo, Taman Sejarah,
Taman Balai Kota, Cikapundung Riverspot, Alun-Alun Bandung, and Taman Pers
Malabar. The elements of the urban park which are the object of research including
vegetation, water, pavement, bollard, fences, kiosks, signage, seats, and toilets.
The method used in this study is a mixed method with qualitative approach. The
data collection method is carried out by an online survey of millennials who have
visited urban parks in the city of Bandung. The data processing method is performed
by frequency distribution analysis, Chi-Square association analysis, and content
analysis. The results of this study are that there is a significant relationship between
the choice of elements of urban park and the activities undertaken by millennial
generation in urban parks in Bandung associated with attribute theory, namely
aesthetic attributes, safety, accessibility, features, and conditions. There are also
several additional facilities such as free Wi-Fi, charging stations, and co-working
space that can complement the elements of city parks that are preferred by
millennials. |
