It raised public awareness in Indonesia, especially in the coastal area of South Malang, to build a sea turtle conservation. They built a sea turtle conservation named Bajul Mati Sea Turtle Conservation (BSTC). BSTC arranged several main activities, one of which was to educate children. However, few local people were willing to be the activity facilitators due to inadequate teaching skills. Responding to the problem, new media had to be designed. The media should be persuasive and could support the local facilitators’ activity. The research was focused on the designing and implementation of educating media in the form of 2D animation in BSTC Malang. The method we applied to design the media was the design-thinking method. The preliminary data were collected using the literary study, interview, questioners distributed to the target audiences, and observation methods. Our preliminary study findings indicated that a persuasive animation which could raise the audiences’ empathy should consist of two aspects i.e. easily comprehensible content (the narrative synopsis) and interesting visual narration. The narration was made using the suggestive narration approach and a storytelling style focused on the interaction between characters. The visual aspect presented was in the form of cartoons. The user testing result indicated that the designed animation improved the children’s knowledge of a) the characteristics of turtle (61%), b) the turtle predators (54%), c) the factors leading to turtle extinction (24%), d) the attitudes supporting the turtle conservation, and e) the attitudes when encountering with baby turtles (41%). text
