| Summary: | One of the causes of environmental issue in the Citarum watershed, which is river
water pollution, is textile industry activities. The Urban Village of Cigondewah
Kaler, where the textile industrial area is located in, able to present an overview of
environmental problems that occur in the Citarum watershed. Environmental quality
affects youth to their greater extent, so that the impact will be perceived on their
adulthood. The community participation in development must consider a balanced
distribution of power, especially for groups which are weak in terms of politics and
strength. Current planning practices are prioritizing adult needs and preferences,
differentiating youth from public places and limiting their movements. The
interaction between youth and adult in organizations becomes one of the efforts to
support youth participation. Youths can work together with the community to carry
out environmental protection activities. Therefore, this study aims to identify the
youth participation in environmental protection activities in the Citarum watershed
in Bandung City. Based on the supporting elements of youth participation that have
been prepared, the study will be conducted to review youth participation in
environmental protection activities in the Citarum watershed in Bandung City
through observation, interviews, and literature studies on related documents. The
results of the study told that the youth in The Urban Village of Cigondewah Kaler
participating in environmental protection activities based on factors of awareness,
responsibility, encouragement, leader, and types of activities such as park
development activities that they directly lead. The role of the organization also has
influence on youth participation in youth activities, especially in environmental
protection activities in the Cigondewah Kaler. |
