Summary: | Free-roaming cat is a main source of cat overpopulation which can cause increased risk of countagious desease spreading between human and animals (zonosis). On the other hand, cats can also provide benefits through relationships with humans, which is widely reported as mutually beneficial relationships and impactful on health, or Human Animal Interactions (HAI). HAI has a positive impact on human health and cats can also benefit from the improvements in their quality of life. Free-roaming cats are common in locations frequented by humans such as markets, shops, offices, and schools. The location in which cats gather is associated to food sources and safety for cats to survive and breed. At ITB Ganesha campus, there are many free-roaming cats that are fed by students. After further probing, there is attachment between students and free-roaming cats on campus. This allows the emergence of HAI relations and the potential for further development, for example by using cats as part of student stress management on campus. The final design is expected to facilitate the needs of students for animal interaction as stress management, and the cats for food sources. |
