THE READINESS OF GALUNGGUNG MOUNTAIN AREAS TOURISM INFRASTRUCTURE TO BE THE NATIONAL GEOPARK

The development of geopark is one of the the tourism development efforts in Indonesia. It’s considered to contribute for the regional development, economic development, and maintaining local culture. One of the geopark potentials in West Java is the Galunggung Mountain Area which is located in Tasikmalaya Regency. Galunggung has potential in geological diversity, biodiversity and cultural diversity. But for the status of Galunggung as a geopark area needs to be reviewed regarding its infrastructure readiness. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach where the data collected is primary data obtained through in-depth interviews with stakeholders, observations, and questionnaires. Secondary data obtained through documents from the government policy, book, and journal. Respondents for this study are 200 tourists which selected with convenience sampling. This study has four variables chosen based on the suitability of the research object, which are the characteristics of geotourism, the characteristics of the National Geopark, basic infrastructure of tourism, and geopark infrastructure. The condition of tourism in the Galunggung Mountain Region which is a Naturebased Tourism Attraction with a very high level of excellence is currently a priority for the development of the Regional Government as geotourism. The results of the questionnaire with statistical calculations found that the research variables namely the basic infrastructure of tourism and geopark supporting infrastructure are at the ready level. In order to realize the national status of Geopark, several requirements are still needed, including the determination of boundaries, areas, management, cooperation, geopark master plan and improvement of the quality of infrastructure that is already available to provide comfort for tourists.
