Description
Summary:In order to maintain skin health, experts recommend cleaning the face twice a day. However, the cleanser can generate negative effects on the skin such as skin tightness, skin dryness, irritation, and allergies. This research aims to make and evaluate the powder cleanser with active ingredients of Centella asiatica L. ethanol extracts and providing mildness and moisturizing benefits as well. The formula consists of ethanol extracts of Centella asiatica L. as active ingredients, sodium cocoyl isethionate as the surfactant, maltodextrin as absorbent, kaolin as oil adsorbent and exfoliator, and milk powder as filler. The evaluation of the formula including organoleptic, pH, flowability, moisture content, washability, foaming ability, foam stability, and surface tension. Optimization of the formula obtained that the formula consisting of 5% Centella asiatica L. ethanol extracts, 5% maltodextrin, 9% kaolin, 3% milk powder, sodium cocoyl isethionate 2% was the best formula. It had a pale green color appearance with specific odor, smooth texture, good flowability, pH of 5,84 - 5,87; the moisture content of 0,683-0,687%; surface tension of 32,1 –32,3 dyne/cm2 ; forming 54 ml of foam after 5 minutes, and easy to wash. Statistical analysis of stability data at room temperature and the accelerated test showed that the final formula was stable for 4 weeks. Furthermore, the formula was non-irritant based on acute skin and ocular irritation test. There was no significant difference in the degree of skin moisture before and after five days of using the powder cleanser found by the determination of the transepidermal water loss (TEWL) parameter.
