Skin aging is caused by 2 factors, intrinsic and extrinsic, with free radicals as pollutions become the main cause. This research aims to formulate cream consisting of Haematococcus pluvialis extract consisting of astaxanthin and test the anti-oxidant activity by using DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1pikrihydrazil) method and CUPRAC (Cupric Reducing Antioxidant Capacity) method. Astaxanthin powder was extracted by a sunflower seed oil in 50 o C with a 600 rpm stirring speed. Astaxanthin cream contains, emulgator (Span 80 and Tween 20), cetyl alcohol, chlorocresol, alpha-tocopherol, aquades, and sunflower seed oil that already contain astaxanthin. Stability tests were performed in 4 o C, 19 –28 o C, 40 o C, centrifugation method, freeze-thaw method. Cream organoleptic, pH, and viscosity were observed. Determination of IC50 was performed by DPPH method and EC50 was performed by CUPRAC method with vitamin C used as standard. Acute dermal irritation test was performed in 3 albino rabbits whose skin applied by 0.5 g of cream. DPPH method shows that 1 mg of Haematococcus pluvialis extract consisting of astaxanthin has antioxidant activity equal to 0.648 ppm of vitamin C, however 1 mg of cream consisting of extract has antioxidant activity equal to 4.771 ppm of vitamin C. CUPRAC method shows that 1 mg of Haematococcus pluvialis extract consisting of astaxanthin has antioxidant activity equal to 4.455 ppm of vitamin C, and 1 mg of cream consisting of extract has antioxidant activity equal to 14.222 ppm of vitamin C. The cream is unstable in 40 o C for more than 3 days. Astaxanthin is a non-irritating cream due to acute dermal irritation test.
