In addition to the development of new engines, a reduction in fuel consumption can be achieved by reducing the weight of the car itself. So, materials that have high strength but are light are used. This type of steel is known as Advanced High Strength Steels (AHSS). To manufacture AHSS steel, so it can be used as frames and car’s bodies, cold-tool steels are used as press tool or we call it punch and dies. Various types of research were conducted to increase the life time of dies. So we can reduce the down-time due to damaged dies. Changing the composition of the material, heat treatment, coating techniques, and using lubricants, and combining them, are a techniques that are commonly used in the manufacturing industry to increase hardness and wear resistance on dies so that dies can last longer. On the other hand, there are other methods used in hadfield steel to increase the hardness and wear resistance of the steel by using strain hardening methods such as explosive, rolling, and repetitive hammering. In this thesis, the effect of heat treatment and cold working (repetitive hammering) on the microstructure, hardness and strain value of the material are investigated. Observation and characterization such as OES of the samples were carried out to determine chemical composition, microstructure, and hardness. Samples that have been quenched and tempered after heat treatment, each are given a repetitive hammering to determine their behavior against strains, hardness and microstructure. text
