In Indonesia powder metallurgy does not developed well, one of the reasons is the dependence on imported powder. This study discusses about the effect of various parameters of metal powder making using a centrifugal atomization machine on the character of the powder produced. The research included atomization tools repairation, powder making, milling, and followed by characterization processes to determine powder morphology, powder size distribution, and the formed compounds. The process parameters tested in this study are the type of raw material, the anode rotational speed, and the amount of electric current applied. The raw materials used are reinforced steel cylinder rods, AISI 202, AISI 304, brass, and Al6061. With a rotational speed variation of 4000rpm, 6000rpm and 8000rpm. And electric current applied are 25A, 40A, 55A, and 70A specifically for making Al6061 powder. The increase in rotational speed will reduce the size of the powder, and increasingly make the powder shaped like a ball. The increase in electric current input on Al6061 powder will make the powder more ligamental shaped. The milling process effectively reduces the size of alloy steel powder with a percent reduction of up to 89% with angular shaped powder, but it’s less effective for brass and Al6061. The XRD results showed that reinforced steel powder from atomization contains Fe2O3 and FeO powder, while AISI 202 and AISI 304 contains Cr2MnO4 compounds. Brass Powder contains Cu5Zn8 compounds and Al6061 powder contains MgO compounds. text
