DETERMINATION OF THERMAL RESISTIVITY RELATED TO ELECTRICAL CABLE UNDER THE GROUND SURFACE

Current flows of a conductor will produce thermal energy. Any heat-current resistivity between the cable and the environment will cause temperature rise. In cables buried below the surface means that the soil will be part of the resistivity and the thermal resistivity will be an important part in th...

Any heat-current resistivity between the cable and the environment will cause temperature rise. In cables buried below the surface means that the soil will be part of the resistivity and the thermal resistivity will be an important part in the cable installation below the ground level. Thermal resistivity in the National Electrical Code (2014) is interpreted as how much the ability of an object to deliver heat through the substance by conduction. Thermal resistivity will also be related to the Fourier law, which says that " Conduction heat transfer rate on a plate is proportional to the negative gradient on the temperature between the two sides of the plate and the heat transfer area, but inversely proportional to the plate thickness.". Thermal resistivity on the ground becomes a very essential factor in the calculation to predict the nature of the cables that used in installation. In this research the scope of the work of the survey is to measure the thermal resistivity of the soil at the selected point. The thermal needle will be used to determine the thermal resistivity of the soil with thermal resistivity meter. The thermal resistivity will be determined by inserting a thermal needle into the ground and the needle will remove the electric current through the heater wire, assuming that the needle as a source of heat that dissipates the heat to the surrounding medium text
