Summary: | Abstrack

Modelling is one solution that can be used to understand behaviors or phenomenons. Some methods of modelling are physical modelling and numerical modelling. Two models were used in this research.

The purpose of this research is to compare the behaviors of the physical modelling and the numerical modelling for each step along moving of granulars which will be used in the numerical modelling.

Physical modelling contain tools and matters that used to modelling behaviors of granular model. The tools and matters prepared then process to taking photo/frame using Handy Cam TRV-50E. The result in the form photo/frame then modified use Adobe Premier 5.0 software to obtain phases of behaviors of granular model in the constant short interval time (± 0.04 second).

Numerical modelling done after physical modelling finished Photos and granular time the result of physical modelling were compared with result of numerical modelling. Before that, some of datas like geometrical data and variabel data were entered in numerical program and must same with physical modelling datas. With repeatedly entering data in numerical program we can find figures of behaviors of granular model that almost resemble with physical modelling photos.

The comparison of result of physical modelling and numerical modelling are showing the same behaviors of granular model. This results is the best that we can obtain after doing repeatedly process in numerical modelling to find the same behaviors of physical modelling.

Conclusion from this research is two way of modelling can be modelling of behaviors of granular model. The value of normal stiffness and shear stiffness of contact material in physical modelling can be find after entering geometrical data and variabel data in numerical program. Value of normal stiffness and shear stiffness about 3.9731 x 104 N/m. This is means that two way of modelling can definiting value of normal stiffness and shear stiffness contact for another material, for another size. |
