Summary: | Powder metallurgy technology is a manufacturing technology that has actually been long discovered and used widely. Various important components in industry and vehicles as well as other technologies are carried out through this method. One product that is the result of powder metallurgy is a gas filter. Gas filters are widely used in industry for the needs of filtering particles in the air, reducing gas flow pressure, and reducing noise in the air flow. High demand is not followed by domestic production but depends on imported products. Therefore, understanding and research is needed to develop the filter component independently in Indonesia.
The method used in making this filter is through powder metallurgy. The material used is brass because this material is easy to manufacture, has good corrosion resistance and has anti-microorganism properties. The filter is made in the shape of a coin with a diameter of 19.8 mm with a compacting process pressure of 150MPa and 200MPa. Then the percent addition of corn flour additives of 3 %, 5 % and 7.5 % by weight of brass and sintering temperatures at 620 oC and 650 oC.
The filter product results from this processing being able to form porosity above 40 % by volume and the smallest pore diameter below 20 ?m. Filter performance improvement is expected to occur after this research. |
