Summary:<b>Abstract :</b><p align="justify">The construction industry is one of the most dynamic and risky field. Construction activity is more influenced by risk than other industrial activity because its complexity, as a construction project usually requires a multitude of people with different skills, the coordination of many activities, and enormous amounts of capital. Such complexity is further compounded by many external and uncontrollable factors. The risk inherent in any project will arise from variety of sources and vary both in likelihood of occurrence and in impact on the success of the project. Risk can affect productivity, performance, quality, and budget of a construction project. <br /> <p align="justify">In general, contractors are faced with more risk than other party involved in a construction project. This research provides the current attitude of Indonesian contractors, especially in Jakarta and Bandung, toward risk and determines how they control the risk. The research also presents the perception of Indonesian contractors regarding risk and the current circumstances in the industry. <br /> <p align="justify">The investigation in the study was undertaken by sending questionnaires to 100 contractors in Jakarta and Bandung, and 44 questionnaires were filled and returned. By studying the result, an understanding will he gained of the current situation in the construction industry from contractor 's viewpoint. <br /> <p align="justify">Nowadays, in Indonesia, there are economic problems such as inflation and fluctuation in currency exchange rates. The study shows that currently contractors have been more willing to take and accept risk. Risk taking is more warranted when faced with failure to meet targets than when the targets were secure. The study also shows that attitude toward risk is associated with decision maker's personality and corporate success.
