INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/47802 Diabetics need to maintain strict nutritional intake, because the wrong intake may lead to an increase of blood sugar levels, and cause other health problems. In comparison, the carbohydrate requirement of a normal person is about a half of the total calories needs per day, whereas for diabetics their carbohydrate needs are limited to no more the one third. The problem of the strict diet of diabetics can cause boredom with the least menu choices allowed. This research tries to overcome these problems. By utilizing a linear program, a menu will be selected that meets the dietary requirements of diabetics. As an illustration, for 23 types of foods that include a selection of carbohydrates, proteins, vegetables and fruits, one can select from each food to make a complete food menu per day that meets dietary requirements. Some of these menus cannot be used for several reasons, for example the menu consists a half apple per day. Furthermore, by adding some other requirements, for example minimum two portions of fruits and maximum four portion of vegetables, will give us 100 menus choices to be selected. Finally, the 2 weekly menus for diabetics can be chosen from this list. For other diabetic patients with different personal requirement, similar procedures with some adjusments can be applied. text
