Summary: | Deagrarianization as part of the dynamics of rural transformation is also related to the diversification of production patterns and livelihoods. One that develops in rural areas is creative industries that require innovative thinking. The types of innovation that occur in rural areas are not only technical innovations but also social innovations which are ultimately supported by technical innovations, such as digitalization which is the trend of rural transformation. Industry era 4.0 is a moment of information technology penetration in supporting digitalization, not least in rural areas. Digitalization in the creative industries is thought to be able to encourage the creation and strengthen existing social innovations. Social innovation makes the community able to solve social problems and improve the quality of people's lives, which in turn is able to drive social change. Therefore, this study aims to identify the effect of digitalization on the creative industries in the process of social innovation.
This qualitative study is conducted using interviews and documentation, such as voice records and field notes in data collection. Interviews were conducted with purposive sampling and snowballing techniques. The data is analyzed using the ATLAS.TI software with comparative and content analysis methods. Data analysis was carried out in three stages; (i) data reduction, (ii) data presentation, and (iii) data inference and verification. The theoretical framework related to social innovation obtained from the literature review is applied to two case studies that have different characteristics, namely Kamasan Village and Kaliabu Village. Characteristics differences included the types of digital technology, types of creative industries, and socio-cultural characteristics of the community.
The results show that digitalization in the creative industry influences the process of social innovation as a new social movement that is finally able to be a driver of social change in society. This is obtained because there is a link between digitalization actors and their social systems. Collective action on digitalization and legitimacy on digitalization actions are very much needed in the process of changing the social system of society. There are several contexts that affect differences in the results of social innovation, namely the type of technology used, the type of creative industry, and the socio-cultural characteristics of the community. By creating and strengthening social innovation, it is highly expected to encourage local initiatives as a participatory form in the provision of public services and solving social problems in rural communities so that they can oversee rural transformation that is more inclusive and socially sustainable.
