Description
Summary:The classroom has an important role in the process and outcome of learning because each element interior affects the user's performance. The classrooms in ITB are one of the examples of poor maintenance cases because the user-oriented needs (students and lecturers) tend to be unfulfilled. This phenomenon occurs because ITB does not make periodic updates to its class. Based on the problem, this research is done to know how user responses to the condition classroom in ITB. The results of this research are the new classroom interior standars to suit their needs. The method approach used in this research is qualitative and quantitative. Qualitative method is conducted through ethnographic activities by seat-in to the classroom (which is chosen to be a sample) to observe the classroom's existing condition and its impact on user behavior. Meanwhile, the quantitative method is done by spreading the questionnaire to comprehend the user's response to the current ITB classroom condition. The observation results are compared by general standar data and questionnaire results following in a conclusion of the final standar. Through this research, it was found that there existed the interior element that had a bad and good condition. An interior element with a bad condition is the seating layout with no distance-to-the side so making sticks together. This causes users difficult to move and cause congested classes. It also triggers other problems related to temperature, noise, odor, and privacy and concentration. After the standarization of the seating layout is done by giving a distance of 60 cm (minimum distance for human moving), it is expected that other problems related to the seating layout can be resolved. Besides, from this research also found that the quality of affordability to see and hear in the classroom are quite good. Noise level and lighting conditions in the classroom are still not compliant, but they do not cause problems to users and still support the learning process
