Mirza, Faisal Indonesia Final Project clay, Methylenblue Test, compacting, sand INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/48216 Indonesia is a country that has a lot of infrastructure projects. Infrastructure can suffer damage due to various things. Damage experienced by infrastructure can be caused from the land that supports the infrastructure. One type of damage caused from soil cases is damage due to land that has experienced expansion or change in volume. This can occur in clay-type soils. Indonesia is a country that has a land composition mostly consisting of clay. Clay soils have a variety of minerals that can affect the nature and behavior of clay soils, such as swelling. The potential for developing this land can influence decision making on infrastructure projects, especially in geotechnical aspects. Therefore, further studies are needed regarding clay which has the potential to expand to find out its improvement efforts. In this study, tests were carried out on soil samples that had the potential to expand due to minerals contained in these soil samples, such as kaolinite. To identify the potential for expansion of soil samples, Index Properties test and quantitative and qualitative mineral identification were carried out with the Methylenblue Test and X-Ray Diffraction Test. After identification, compacting is carried out under normal conditions and conditions when repaired with sand, to obtain maximum gamma dry value and optimum moisture content, then a swelling test will be conducted using a consolidation tool to determine swelling potential. For samples with a certain amount of sand added soil will result in an increase in the undrained shear strength of the soil compared to the original sample using a unconfined compressive test. text |
