Indication of overlaping catchment areas between neighboring airports may subsequently lead to airport leakages. Airport leakage is a situation in which passengers/travelers are preferring other airports as opposed to their nearest local airports to gain advantage flight flexibility or better access to airport. In this study, the observation encompassed Multi-airport in West Java Province, Indonesia which has just started operating Kertajati Airport as the central airport in West Java by 2018, and its neighboring airports, Soekarno-Hatta Airport and Halim Perdanakusuma Airport. The objective of this study is to identify whether airport leakage happened in West Java’s Multi-airports by comparing the frequency of scheduled direct flights and accessibility of the aforementioned airports. This study implemented spatial data processing using ArcGIS software and descriptive statistics analytics. The research findings concluded that addition of new airports is affecting the increment in connectivity of air transportation network in terms of coverable flight routes but not accompanied with increment in serviced passengers in West Java’s Multi-airports. This is due to the occurrence of airport leakage where passengers preffered departing either from Soekarno-Hatta Airport or Halim Perdanakusuma Airport which offered higher flights frequency and accessibility. Passengers with such perspective are commonly passengers who travel with business-related interests and prioritize the flexibility of flight schedules. Meanwhile, Kertajati Airport offered more affordable transportation cost to reach the airport to attract passengers with tourism interests. text |
