Summary:The primary energy supply in Indonesia still dominated by non-renewable energy such as crude oil and imported refined oil products. To overcome this problem, the Indonesian government issued a policy on renewable energy use such as biomass. However, biomass has the disadvantage of a lower heating value than fossil fuels. To increase the efficiency of the power plant is to use the Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC). This research will discuss the study of biomass generation with wood pellet fuel using three types of working fluids such as R245fa, R236ea, and R114. The samples of albasia wood pellets and mahogany wood pellets are suitable for fuel power plants because both already qualify the requirements of the ISO 17225-2 ENPlus B. Based on the simulation, the best working fluid with the most significant output power produced by R245fa. However, the efficiency produced tends to be smaller than R236ea and R114 fluids. To increase system efficiency is to use a regenerator. This component reduces the heat needed to convert the working fluid into saturated steam. The power generated by the system can optimize by enlarging the working area of the fluid through increasing turbine pressure, increasing the evaporation temperature, and decreasing the condenser pressure. Furthermore, with the optimization results and LCOE (Levelized Cost of Energy) method, an estimated production cost of the 746,86 kW power plant capacity using albasia wood pellet fuel is Rp2,443/kWh. As for choosing NPV (Net Present Value) method with a profit margin of 8% of the production costs, the discount rate of 5%, and the duration of the project for 20 years, the cumulative cash flow NPV in the last year of the project is positive. That indicates that the power plant project with wood pellet fuel is feasible as alternative energy.
