Food packaging is one of the important aspects in the food industry. Plastic is the most commonly used material in food packaging. Plastic waste can cause severe environmental problems. Biodegradable plastic is a suitable substitute for conventional plastic, especially for food packaging used in the short term. PLA is a promising solution because it has renewable, biodegradable, biocompatible, and good thermomechanical properties. However, the PLA has many disadvantages such as fragile structure and high gas permeability. Addition of filler to PLA can improve the mechanical properties, barrier properties, and biodegradation rate. The filler used is bentonite that used in CPO industry. Bentonite has several uses, one of which is an adsorbent in refining of crude palm oil. Before being used as a filler, bentonite must be regenerated to remove oil and impurities to have properties such as before being used as an adsorbent. Bentonite extracted was given NaOCl bleach and ODA surfactant. PLA is synthesized using the ring opening polymerization method. The catalyst used is Sn (Oct)2. Nanocomposites are made by mixing PLA and bentonite using an extruder. The purpose of this study is to model the kinetics of PLA formation reaction and extruder temperature control. The modeling of ring opening polymerization reaction in the batch system produces PLA with a molecular weight of 193846 g/mol, not far from the results of experiments that have been conducted. In addition, simulation of PLA formation reactions by the direct polycondensation method produces PLA with 25.432 g/mol molecules. Extrusion temperature control modeling that used servo case states that the difference in extrusion temperature does not affect the time required to reach steady conditions. text
