Description
Summary:Increasing the number of residents in urban areas will result in several problems in several aspects of the social, economic and urban environment. Physically the city, population growth will be followed by an increase in housing or housing development needs. Limited land in the city center will provide gaps to the community, especially low-income people (MBR) to obtain adequate housing. Increasing the number of residents in the city with limited land will be a problem of the city with the emergence of irregular housing developments that are minimal from city facilities. Cimahi City is part of the Bandung Metropolitan Area which is adjacent to the City of Bandung. In the Cimahi City RTRW it has been directed to realize Cimahi City as the core city in the National Basin Center for Activities (PKN) in the Bandung basin. The development of the City of Cimahi will make the community attractive for activities and living in the Cimahi City area. Population growth will increase housing needs. Increased housing needs that are not balanced with the carrying capacity of land can cause several urban environmental problems including the emergence of informal settlements to environmental degradation. This study aims to understand the relationship between the level of community participation and improvement in the quality of the slum environment and its potential and obstacles. In this study through several stages and variables of the social, economic and social characteristics of settlements, the level of community participation, and the potential and obstacles of the community in improving the quality of settlements. The approach used in this study is a quantitative approach, which is exploratory using primary data and secondary funds. The selected microstudy areas are the Setiamanah area and the Babakan Kidul area. The analysis technique used is descriptive analysis and correlation test using the SPSS program with Chi-Square test and Spearman test. The analysis showed several findings including the relationship of community or socioeconomic characteristics with improved environmental quality obtained different results in two regions, in the Setiamanah Pojok area that has a relationship with improving environmental quality, namely the type of work and in the Babakan Kidul region which has a relationship with improving environmental quality, namely length of stay. In socioeconomic with the level of community participation in the Pojok Setiamanah area that has a relationship that is the length of stay and in the Babakan Kidul area on the variable length of stay and income level. In the correlation analysis the level of participation with an increase in environmental quality has a difference, if in the Setiamanah region there is a relationship between the level of participation and an increase in the quality of the settlement environment. In the Babakan Kidul area there is no relationship with the level of participation. In comparison, the socio-economic characteristics and participation that influence the quality of the settlement environment are socioeconomic characteristics This is the basis of improving environmental quality. When socioeconomic or well-being of the community will either affect community participation directly it will have a positive impact on the quality of the neighborhood. Barriers owned by the community where lack of awareness and lack of knowledge about the importance of good environmental conditions can be minimized through programs implemented on the RT / RW scale through cooperation with government and non-profit organizations. The potential of the community that has not been channeled from several activities and some community initiatives can create environmental improvement groups in accordance with the precedent in which to raise awareness and organize the community in improving the quality of the residential environment.
