The experiment result showed that the separation of fatty acids from PFAD had many difficulties because it was difficult to separate among saturated and unsaturated acids in PFAD. Hence, another method is recommended, namely the separation of unsaturated fatty acids with urea complexation. text |

Biofuel gasoline production technology through the pyrolysis of metal base soap is
underway on Chemical Engineering Community, Institut Teknologi Bandung. The
selection of metal base soap as an intermediate for the production of biofuel gasoline
via pyrolysis is felt to have hope in future because the pyrolysis residue of metal base
soap still can be recycled by the further processing into metal base soap again. Metal
base soap is made by reacting fatty acids (in this study are oleic acid) with multivalent
metal hydroxides, namely Zn4Ca????Mg(2 - ????)Cr2(OH)16CO3, with ???? of 0 < ???? < 1. Oleic acid
is obtained from PFAD which is separated between oleic acid and palmitic acid through
the Hoerr method (1955). Preparation of hydroxide by coprecipitation of nitrate salts.
The purpose of the study is to obtain the optimal conditions for the manufacture of
metal hydroxides from the pH or composition of the metals (????). Furthermore the desired
condition of metal base soap is one that has the smallest possible acid number or zero.
The saponified hydroxide value in the desired metal base soap is 50%. This result is
needed because the desired product is basic metal soap. The experiment result showed
that the separation of fatty acids from PFAD had many difficulties because it was
difficult to separate among saturated and unsaturated acids in PFAD. Hence, another
method is recommended, namely the separation of unsaturated fatty acids with urea
complexation. |
